About

Built by a producer, for producers

Plugr exists because I got tired of spending more time searching for updates than making music.

The story

Plugr was made by me, Josh. I've been a music producer for more than 15 years, and like many others, I collected tons of plugins over the years (some call it "Plugin Acquisition Syndrome"), leading to chaos. Thousands of plugins, scattered versions across formats, half I couldn't even remember what they did. Plugins I'd never updated would stop working after a macOS upgrade, breaking my projects. Others had been outdated for years without me knowing — and when I did notice, I'd often struggle to figure out where to download the update from. I'd reach for the same handful of tools on every project, forgetting I owned dozens of other options that could have done the job better. I'd buy something at full price one week, then watch it go on sale for half off the next. Projects piled up in folders inside folders, with no easy way to flip through them, hear them, or know how to pick up where I'd left off. Old plugins I never used ate gigabytes of space on my hard drive. Worst of all, I was spending more time sifting and sorting than actually making music — by the time I got everything working, I'd lost my inspiration.

I tried every existing tool I could find. None did everything I needed, or any one piece well enough. Keeping my own spreadsheet was a chore, and the payoff wasn't worth the effort. The organization features built into my DAW were limited at best. The honest answer was: there wasn't a tool for this. So I built one.

Why Plugr is different

Plugr is built by someone who actually uses it every day. It's not a side project from a software company trying to expand into audio — it's a tool that exists because its creator needed it. That shows up in dozens of small decisions that make Plugr actually useful for the everyday producer. I've really tried to think of everything possible to make it as useful for you as I could, and I promise to keep taking your feedback and making it even better.

Plugr will keep getting better as I keep producing, because every new feature comes out of a real moment of "ugh, this would be nice."

The business behind it

Plugr is a small indie operation — one person running the show. Honesty about pricing matters to me: the subscription model exists because keeping update sources current and watching the deal sites takes ongoing work, not because anyone wants another monthly charge. The Lifetime option exists because I respect that some people still prefer buy-once-pay-once.
