About

Built by a producer, for producers

Plugr exists because I got tired of having no idea what was on my own Mac.

The story

I'm Josh Isaacs. I'm a music producer based in Boulder, Colorado. Like a lot of people who've been making music for a while, somewhere around year ten my plugin library quietly slipped from "organized" into "complete chaos." Three thousand plugins. Different versions of the same thing scattered across formats. Updates I'd forgotten about. Whole packs I'd bought during a sale and then never touched again.

I tried every existing tool. MacUpdater was great for app updates but missed all my plugins. The plugin manager apps from individual vendors only knew about their own stuff. Spreadsheets and Notion docs lasted about a week. The honest answer was: there wasn't a tool for this. So I built one.

Why Plugr is different

Plugr is built by someone who actually uses it every day. It's not a side project from a software company trying to expand into audio — it's a tool that exists because its creator needed it. That shows up in dozens of small decisions: the way the category colors mirror what you'd see in a DAW, the fact that the bounce player works without opening your DAW, the existence of a tap tempo button you don't have to leave the app for.

It also means Plugr will keep getting better as I keep producing, because every new feature comes out of a real moment of "ugh, this would be nice."

The business behind it

Plugr is a small indie operation — one person plus the help of friends, family, and a small group of beta testers. Honesty about pricing matters to me: the subscription model exists because keeping update sources current and watching the deal sites takes ongoing work, not because anyone wants another monthly charge. The Lifetime option exists because I respect that some people prefer buy-once-pay-once, and because it gives me a way to fund the early growth phase before subscription revenue is steady.

If you have feedback, ideas, complaints, or just want to say hi — I read everything that lands in hello@plugr.co.

Credits & thanks

Plugr is built on Electron, React, and a small mountain of open-source modules from people whose names I'll probably never know. The brand mark and wordmark are designed by me. The deal feeds come from VST Buzz, Plugin Boutique, and Audio Plugin Deals — three retailers who've been generous about letting Plugr surface their offerings.

Special thanks to the early beta testers who let me ship them broken builds for months and didn't unsubscribe. Plugr wouldn't exist without you.
